Students worked with a partner to read a non-fiction selection.
As they read, they decided what was important and hi-lighted it.
They recorded jot notes in a t-chart. This skill of differentiating

Students are learning to write short summaries of non-fiction texts by using the 5Ws + H and then putting it altogether to create a very short, 20 word gist summary.
